dies mercurii

Salve! My name is Kyra, and along with my fellow newly-appointed aedile, Rachel, I will be writing the Latin Academy blog posts. We will be posting about the events following the day they occur.

Last night, Academy students voted for their officials following Roman traditions: they broke into tribes to elect their quaestors, tribunes, and aediles; they grouped into centuriae to vote for their praetors, consuls, and censors.

Our officials are as follows:
quaestors (responsible for delivering mail): Abby, Kelleen
tribunes (organize social events): Aleida, Andrew
aediles (write the blog): Rachel, Kyra
praetors (organize sports and 4th of July celebrations): Henry, Amanda
consuls (represent the Academy, provide introductions when speakers present): Lydia, Grace
censors (make sure everyone is awake in the morning, count students): Sarah, Leina, Yonsei, Josh

Students also tried out for the Academy's play, "Rudens" ("The Rope"), and from what Dr. Franko calls the "strongest performances he has seen," the following cast was chosen:

Daemones: Sean & Connor
Sceparnio - John
Gripus - Andrew
Palaestra - Grace C.
Ampelisca - Rachel
Ptolemocratia - Lydia
Plesiddipus - Wyatt
Trachalio - Josh & Austin
Labrax - Aleida & Sarah L.
Charmides - Kelleen
Piscatores - Amanda, Abby, Sam, Sallie, & Melissa
Lorarii - Justin & Chris
Arcturus - Henry
