dies lunae, 23

This morning students took their A B C classes for the first time. In LATINA PRO VICIS they learned the Latin alphabet and basic Latin phrases that will be essential for their time at academy. In VATES VORTIT ANGLICE Dr Franko introduced the idea of translation with poems of Catullus and Sappho. In TRANSFORMATIONES magistra Carroll led a discussion of Ovid and his reception in Renaissance art and began reading the story of Europa.
After lunch Dr Franko and Magistra Carroll introduced this year's play, RUDENS. It looks like almost all of the students will be involved in some way. Then Mo from Campus Safety said what needed to be said to the students regarding their responsibilities and expectations while on campus.
The late afternoon was spent on a classically themed scavenger hunt designed to familiarize the students with the RMC campus. After a delicious dinner in the dining hall, magister Cavedo explained the significance of this summer's theme, REM TENE VERBA SEQUENTUR, hold on to the theme the words will follow. In the evening the students played a game answering pop culture and Latin academy related questions asked entirely in Latin. The results will be in tomorrow.
Just before bedtime the first EPISTULAE was held, and any letters or packages from home already sent were happily received.
